Skype Guitar & BASS Lessons
In addition to offering in-person private guitar and bass lessons in Queen Creek Arizona, I also offer webcam guitar lessons and webcam bass lessons to students all over the country! If Queen Creek Arizona is too far for you to travel to receive lessons in-person you can now sign up for online webcam lessons via Skype.
Here is everything you need to know about signing up for Skype guitar and bass lessons. If you have any further questions please feel free to Email me or give me a call at 480-458-7758.
What do I need to get started with Skype Guitar & Bass Lessons?
How will the first lesson go?
During our first Skype webcam guitar lesson or bass lesson we will first need to make sure everything is set up and working properly on your end. Please note that this setup may take up the entire first lesson. If you have successfully used your webcam before then there should be no problems and the set up process should be rather quick. Once everything is running properly (you can hear and see me and I can hear and see you without any major connection or audio problems) we will begin the lessons.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of webcam lessons?
Advantages
The obvious advantage to taking guitar or bass lessons via Skype is the convenience of learning guitar or bass from a real person without needing to leave your home. Skype guitar and bass lessons are great for those who are already familiar with the guitar or bass (intermediate or advanced level) but aren't able to travel to lessons every week. Skype guitar and bass lessons are also great for intermediate to advanced students who want to take multiple lessons every week. Some students who take multiple lessons each week prefer to have their first lesson of the week in person and then have a second Skype based lesson later in the week so that I can check up on their progress and help provide them with more motivation and accountability.
Disadvantages
It’s tough to teach beginner guitar and bass students over webcam. Learning how to hold the guitar, how to hold a pick, and where to put your fingers is more effective when I can show you in-person. If you are a beginner I highly recommend staying away from Skype lessons and finding a local teacher instead. If you live in Arizona then feel free to email me or call me at 480-458-7758 and we can set up an in-person lesson.
The other drawback to Skype guitar lessons and Skype bass lessons is that there can be a slight delay in the audio/video feed between our computers. It’s like a long-distance phone call or a TV interview via satellite. It’s no big deal except that it prevents us from playing together with any kind of rhythm. We get around that simply by playing separately to recordings or written music. However, playing together is still very important part of learning guitar which is why many students who choose to take Skype lessons once a week also choose to take an in-person lesson once a week.
Will I still receive free handouts and practice routines?
Yes! I will email you everything you need either before, during, or after our lesson.
