Acoustic Guitar vs Electric Guitar
"Should I buy an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar?" - This is the first question every beginner guitarist must ask him or herself. The way to answer this question depends on what style of music you’re interested in and what your budget is. Here are some basic things to consider when making your decision.
Electric Guitars – This is for the individual who is interested in playing music like rock, metal, punk, pop, indie, and modern country. Electric guitars allow the player to have more tonal options with the use of different pickups, amplifiers, and effect pedals. Another benefit of the electric guitar is that they are much easier to play and learn on. The strings on an electric guitar are usually lighter than an acoustic guitar's strings and therefore an electric guitar is easier on a beginner’s fingers. The only downside to electric guitars is the price. With an acoustic guitar all you need to do is buy the guitar and you’re good to go. With an electric guitar you need to buy the guitar, an amplifier, and a cable. For most students, I recommend purchasing an electric guitar due to the ease of use and the fact that electric guitars are just more fun to learn on. Acoustic Guitars – This is for the individual on a budget who just wants to try out the guitar without investing too much money. It’s also for the individual who wants to play acoustically focused music like country, folk, and gospel. Click here to check out my beginner buyers guide for acoustic guitars.
